San Franciscan foodies—and design aficionados—can rejoice at the arrival of Twenty Five Lusk, a stylish restaurant and lounge that recently opened in the up-and-coming China Basin neighborhood in the SoMa (South of Market) district. Housed in a historic 1917 warehouse that previously served as a meatpacking and smokehouse facility, the restaurant has a modern industrial look, courtesy of the design firm CCS Architecture.The multilevel, 9,000-square-foot space retains original features from the former warehouse such as its brick smoking rooms and heavy timber ceilings. The former freight elevator shaft was transformed into a 2-story wine cellar and the smoke rooms are now home to a dining bar and private table area.The restaurant is divided into three floors, starting with a mezzanine that anchors the street level entrance, a dining area and glass-enclosed kitchen on the top floor, and an underground level for the hip bar and lounge. The contrast of raw-sawn Douglas fir, steel, glass, and exposed brick emphasize the restaurant’s rustic appeal while modern furnishings that include sleek seating with clean-lined silhouettes and sculptural pendant lights make for cool, urban complements.
